Stroke Specialist Call Surveys
To keep pace with rapidly changing call trends, NeuStrategy updated its national stroke call coverage data set in 2013. Groundbreaking results from over 200 hospitals were revealed in a November 2013 webinar. This report explored call coverage arrangements for neurology, neuroendovascular specialists, cerebrovascular neurosurgery and emerging telestroke arrangements. NeuStrategy discussed how stroke call arrangements have evolved from 2009 to 2013, including:
- Specialty-specific stroke call coverage patterns and pay ranges
- Hospital-employed resources to support on-call physicians
- Telestroke access to stroke specialists
Originally launched in 2009, NeuStrategy expanded and re-fielded the stroke specialist call survey in 2012. The expanded survey allows hospitals and physicians to compare their call arrangements to emerging national trends for neurologists, endovascular specialists, cerebrovascular neurosurgeons and telestroke access to stroke specialists.
In 2009, NeuStrategy fielded the first-ever national survey exploring neurology staff composition, call structure and frequency, scope of call services, burden of call, on-call support, telestroke services, transport arrangements and hospital-neurology alignment models. Findings were presented in a 2010 webinar and summarized in an Executive Summary, available for download.
In summer 2007, NeuStrategy introduced an in-depth study of stroke centers of excellence, the first survey in a series of specialty program evaluations designed to complement the Neuroscience COE Survey. The first-ever Stroke COE Survey addresses key elements that comprise specialty service and program development. Survey participation included 68 hospitals from 29 states ranging from academic to community hospitals and from large urban to small rural hospitals.
